Safety and Security and Title IX

Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act

On December 23, 2024 The Stop Campus Hazing Act was enacted and changed the Jeanne Clery disclosure of Campus Security Policy & Campus Crime Statistics Act (the Clery Act) name to the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act. The goal of the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act is to ensure students, prospective students, parents, and employees have access to accurate information about crimes committed on the campus and campus security procedures.

The Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act requires institutions of higher education to comply with certain campus safety and security related requirements as a condition of their participation in the Title IV and HEA programs. The Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act will continue to be required to compile statics for incidents of dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking and to include certain policies, procedures, and programs pertaining to these incidents in their annual security reports. Additionally, hazing is a reportable crime and specific policies, procedures, programs and statistics pertaining to hazing incidents will be included in the annual security report.

ABOUT NOTIFICATIONS:

West Coast University / American Career College Notification system was created to enhance and promote safety on campus by providing students, faculty, and staff with timely access to important information. The system sends two types of communications to the campus community, Timely Warnings (Crime Alerts) and Emergency Notifications, as required by the Jeanne Clery Campus Security Act (the Clery Act). The Clery Act requires federally-funded universities to share information about campus crime and safety, and requires issuing alerts for certain incidents that happen on campus or on campus-associated property. Community Alerts are not required by the Clery Act but are sent under certain circumstances.

Daily Crime Log

Criminal incidents, or alleged criminal incidents reported to the Global Security Operations Center (GSOC) are recorded in the daily crime log and are available upon request from the front desk associate on each campus. The Vice President, Safety & Security or designee maintains the crime log through an electronic reporting system. The crime log contains a record of all crimes reported that occurred within WCU/ACC’s Clery geography. Any person may request to inspect the institution’s daily crime log for the most recent 60-day period. The log inspection is free of charge and available during normal business hours. Portions of the log that are older than 60 days may also be made available within two days and include data from the last seven years. The log contains all crimes that were reported to the institution that occurred within the institution’s geography and includes the nature of the crime, the date/time it was reported, the date/time it occurred, the general location and the case disposition.

Live Safe

LiveSafe - Mass Notification System

The Safety & Security department utilizes the LiveSafe app to stay connected with students and associates. Download the app on your iOS or Android device to view safety resources, contact security, and report suspicious activity anonymously.

LiveSafe – How to Download

Throughout the duration of an emergency event, faculty, associates, and students may receive operational status reports through various means. During emergencies, the LiveSafe system will be the primary means of mass notification. LiveSafe provides various communication tools to communicate to subscribed faculty, associates, and students via registered devices and email accounts. This includes text messages, push notifications, and email messages.

In addition to LiveSafe, ACC/WCU may communicate emergency and operational status information through the following means:

  1. ACC/WCU homepage;
  2. Banners at the top of ACC/WCU owned websites;
  3. Social media - including X, Facebook, and Google;
  4. Internal PA system.

All faculty, associates, and students are enrolled in the emergency notification system automatically and are encouraged to download the LiveSafe app (instructions can be found on the associate and student intranets).

Faculty, associates, and students are encouraged to listen to local radio and television stations for information regarding severe weather information, including evacuation-related requirements. ACC/WCU maintains a multi-faceted emergency communications network, which is activated when an immediate notification must be made to the entire community.
